"Sinking"

The patient curls of cold forgetting
Lap around the too-long pulsing
Slow, the jaws creep eager around it
Like serpent quietly devouring prey

The limp muscle slips below the tenuous surface
Shimmers in the shallow glow of early depths
As it drops through an age of molasses time
Fades expressionless into a stagnant fog

The chill gray surrounds
It envelops
It enshrouds
A cloak of emptiness to clean
And to hide

Remorse and passion, have sunk now beyond sight
Lost in the black and nauseous fathoms
Leaving only the memories of its pathetic demise
And the dissolving ripples on the surface above.
